myLot Discussions on books
I lost my interest in reading books....:-( .....what should I do...?
I was once crazy in reading books.... I was fond of science fictions, detective novels, stories,etc.... But now I am losing my patience.....so I am not able to complete reading a particular book.... I think its due to the movies.... For example....... da vinci code, harry potter series, sherlock holmes...are made in the form of movies..... so I stop reading those books and turn to watching movies.... Now, I can't restart my hobby...... What should I do..? I can't say which one is better- movie or reading...
Which is a better educational tools for children? books or internet?
This is a personal observation with my children. I noticed that since we had internet connection at home, I seldom see them using books for their assignments. They go straight to computer and search the net for the answers to their assignments. I once asked my daughter why? and she said, it is better using the net because it has many examples, better explanations and easy understanding for it has colorful illustrations. Thinking, I realized its true. But there are always disadvantages of using the net. Children will be tempted to open sites that are for adults only. Guidance of parents is always needed, what if like my case, I am always at the office. I mean I just think books is still better tool for children. It allows them to think further and to study harder. Can I hear from you MyLotters? Thanks.
I don't know how international the Mr Men books are, do you know them?
The Mr Men are a wonderful set of small paperback children's books that are really popular in the UK. Do you get these in other countries? If you haven't seen them I would certainly recommend that you try to get them - children just love to have these little books read to them, they are witty, easy to read and beautifully illustrated. There are so many to chose from - my kids loved Mr Tickle and Mr Bump the most. Which do you like?

Books you learn from
Okay I know that reading in itself is good for the brain and helps you learn or advance in your skills. But the other day I was going through my shelf and I realized that I have no books that I feel like I can truly learn something from.. they are all just get away books. you know the ones that you grab to travel outside of yourself and be those people.. But I want to read books where I can grow as a person. I am just having trouble figuring out how I want to do that?

Nowadays The trend of reading is using an ebook, perhaps since it's flexible or being a lifestyle. I have found ebook reader (i mean the real tool) in the market today though i think the price is still unfair for common peoples. So is it possible a digital book/ebook will be the lifestyle and replace any forms of printing media at the future? Let's share. Thanks.

Banning Books?
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/98067-new-gop-argument-against-kagan-she-could-ban-books Republicans introduced a new argument against Elena Kagan's nomination today, suggesting she believes in banning books. In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pointed to the argument Kagan's office made before the Supreme Court in Citizens United vs. FEC, a controversial campaign finance case."Solicitor Kagan's office in the initial hearing argued that it would be OK to ban books," McConnell said. "And then when there was a rehearing Solicitor Kagan herself in her first Supreme Court argument suggested that it might be OK to ban pamphlets."I think that's very troubling, and this whole area of her view of the First Amendment and political speech is something that ought to be explored by the Judiciary Committee and by the full Senate," McConnell said.In the case in question, Chief Justice John Roberts asked the government lawyer whether the law in question could also prevent the publication of a campaign-related book, if it was paid for...
