| does anybody knows lexical semantics? | | can you please tell me something about it, my wife is asking me about it and its not my kind of expertise with regards to very complicated human way of word and language expression | |
| | O.J. Simpson Semantics | | When O.J. Simpson was acquitted after the murder trial against him for murdering his wife, which term do you think would be most appropriate to describe the verdict: "Innocent" or "Not Guilty". Please explain why you chose the term you think is most appropriate. | |

| Relationship Semantics | | Ok, im asking this question just because I need an unbiased opinion on
something. My girl and I fight a lot and much of the time it's
a misunderstanding or miscommunication. Regardless of our problems,
and regardless of hurt feelings (I care about her, so im not
dismissing her feelings, just trying to get an opinion unrelated to
emotion)If I said "go to hell"she heard that as literally "drop dead" or "i wish you were dead" or
"i wish you harm physically"Does her interpretation seem reasonable? Ok, im a guy... just
looking for an opinion maybe from some women. I know it was mean...
I know it wasn't nice...Why would I ask this question? Well, we fight about semantics like
this all of the time. Take for granted, please, that its not
important what the cause/result of our fight is, I just want an
opinion as to if it makes any sense whatsoever to understand "go to
hell" literally as "drop dead" (like "i wish you were dead"). BTW,
we're both from the US if that makes a cultural difference
| | Semantics | | I hate arguments that start because one person used a word another person took exception to.
Example 1: One day I talked about my husband's dr appointment and used the word injection. He wasn't getting an injection that time and kept on saying the same thing over and over. I knew he wasn't getting an injection to start with (sometimes he does) and boy did I regret that word coming out of my mouth. Finally he said you just won't let that go will you? He was the one who kept on me about it, I had let it go.#2 wasn't an argument, but was an odd situation.
I went to the p.o. to pick up a package because the USPS website said that it was at the p.o. I used the word delivered and the two clerks took exception to it that I said it said delivered. I tried to be polite and state that what I meant was the USPS website said it was at the post office, which it was.Am i the only one who has these problems?

| 1 + 1= 2....so we were all taught in life.....SO NOT TRUE!!!! | | Ok, I'm very much a thinker here, haha[em]lol[/em]Many times we've been taught that 1+1=2 in life but that's not right. It's only logical if it's addition in terms of Mathematics. Take this statement for instance - and the 2 shall become one flesh>>>> 1+1 is still 1 yet another possibility is the 1+1 will become 3, it's called raising a family? Haha[em]lol[/em] So tell me, how can 1+1=2 in LIFE? Think of it the other way round - 1 ( father )+1 ( mother )=3 ( father + mother + child ) yet it still can be ONE family[em]whistle[/em] | |
| | who desrve to be the president of USA? | | who deserve to be the president of USA? is it OBAMA or MCCAIN?

| What would YOU ban? | | If you could strike one word from the English language, what would it be? Let's assume that eliminating the word would also remove the thing it represents.I haven't picked my single word (or short phrase) yet. Some of the top contenders are:brain cancer
hate
chemical weapons
neo-Nazi
terrorist
child pornography
rape
war
slavery
nuclear holocaust
diarrhea
anchovies (as pizza topping, not the living fishies!)There's lots more, but I don't want to steal yours.
| | Getting Technical About Stupid Things | | I have noticed I do very silly things to make sure I'm clear on things that areextremely insignificant. I have an SUV (used). So to demonstrate what I'm talking about... My dad wasn't sure last night if he wanted to drive his car. So I said, you can take my vehicle.Vehicle. Why vehicle? Because it isn't a car, it sounds odd to say SUV, so I have noticed I say vehicle.Another silly one? Every time I saykid, I immediately stop myself and remember that a kid is a goat, a young goat. So sometimes I just feel compelled to say child. It doesn't matter if I put kid! But I'm silly enough to write child. Another one is when I say I'm mad.Mad means insane or crazy. So I try to useangry instead ofmad. Ridiculous isn't it?I never ever think anything of other people using mad or kid, never. It's just my own little weird thing.Any of you have anything you get technical about that it just really doesn't matter? There is a phrase that drives my sister up the wall. It is incorrect English, but people say it all the time. I won't even type it. But if you're watching TV with her, and someone says it, she immediately points it out!... | |

| Naked or nude? nude or naked? | | what's the difference? I've always thought that naked means unprotected while nude is uncovered.I wonder what it is to native english speakers or those who are good in the language.Any input? | |
| | Who Is Un-American | | Democrats have started this debate and I wish to finish the debate. Democrats want to label anyone who is dissenting as un-American. Basically put anyone who dares to exercise they first amendment right is un-American. The problem is the first amendment does not give you the right to protest, you already had that right. The first prevent the federal government from stopping you from protesting. So for Democrats across the board to call citizens un-American they are actually labeling themselves as un-American. If you do not believe it what America stands for you are in fact an un-American. Anyone that would try stop stop ones right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is un-American. So does that sound like anyone you might know? | |
