Venus Williams was born to Richard and Oracene Williams in 1980. She is sister to Serena, both well-known tennis players. Venus has won several tennis titles, both singles and doubles, which she partnered with Serena. Venus officially went professional in 1995, and one her first singles championship 4 years later. Named a prodigy by many associated with professional tennis, and awarded the best player of the year by the WTA in 2002, she has earned her reputation as one of the top female players of all time.Known for her grace under pressure and her strong work ethic both on and off the tennis court, she is looked up to by girls around the world. Despite the level of fame she has achieved, she is still down-to-earth, and appreciative of what she has earned. On the tennis court, she is recognized as one of the most devoted and powerful women to have ever played the game.
